The stone of Brutus, the fate of which is inextricably linked to the fate of London, has been saved from demolition by the owner of a sporting goods store.   The manager of this Sportec store, the delightfully named Mr Chris Cheek, intervened when a demolition crew was going to take a pick-axe to the stone, and now he looks over this noble stone of antiquity, which sits in the cricket section of the store.

Plans are afoot to move the stone to the Museum of London, but I rather like the idea of leaving it in the sporting goods store.  Seems appropriate somehow.
